BirthGirlz - Ordinary Extraordinary Mamas
We are often asked "What Do BirthGirlz Do?" Here is a Quick Overview of This Last Year:

We.....

  • provided 30 women in need with free doulas.

  • co-hosted 3 community baby showers, including securing gifts for each low-income mom.

  • funded the "pushing 4 vbacs" attorney to fight the state ban on VBACs in birth centers.

  • Led the fight to save Jackson Memorial Hospital's South Campus' Labor & Delivery Unit. This hospital had the highest rate of Nurse-Midwife attended births and the LOWEST c-section rate in the county. And we won!

  • hosted monthly community pot-luck dinners to build our village.

  • taught childbirth education at no cost to families who could not afford them.

  • planned and presented the 1st South Floirda VBAC Summit to provide information to the community. The 2011 VBAC Summit is in the works now.

  • reached out to the medical school at FIU and are negotiating introducing midwives to medical students in the classroom and clinical setting.

  • mentored new doulas in our community.

  • hosted continuing education courses for Licensed Midwives.

  • fed & clothed families in times of crisis by organizing food deliveries.

  • hosted monthly support groups for post partum depression and loss.

  • continue to fight everyday to normalize motherhood.
